20 years of RheinEnergieMarathon in Cologne

In 1997 the successful story directly began with a world record: At that time no other marathon before had more than 13,000 registered runners taking part in the premier edition.
The finish line next to Cologne Cathedral, a course leading through numerous famous city quarters, the city’s cultural diversity and its carnivalistic atmosphere with thousands of spectators along the course make the RheinEnergieMarathon Cologne to one of most outstanding marathons in the world.

 

In 2006 the half marathon distance was added to the portfolio and since then has developped to Germany’s number 2. Further, the relay marathon where four runners share the 42 k is offered.
Therefore, it does not have to be a full marathon to enjoy the special atmosphere in Cologne.

 

Professional and amateur runners, “Rhenanian cheerfulness” and top athetes’ ambitions, carnival costumes and functional clothings will finally mix up and merge into a great birthday party after the race.
